Tip or Trick of the Week

A winning product can be found all around you. It can be the most boring and everyday items we use. Toothpaste, Coffee, Tea, Hair Dye, Razor Refill Cartridges. It can be anything, and everything we use day to day.

I sometimes joke, “Always be sourcing.” Basically this is a way that during your day to day activities, spend an extra 5-10min to look through a clearance or markdown area of a store. If we had to stop at the grocery store, and happen to find marked down cereal and granola bars to sell for a profit. Or, If we’re at the drug store. For example, we’ve found cooler bags! Always Be Sourcing.

Q&A

Every week we answer a question or two from social media or our subscribers.

This week, we got the question:

“What margin, or what type of profit do you aim for when sourcing your products?”

Good Question from subscriber, Antonio!

There are a lot of variables that can go into what type of margin we look for when reselling. It goes without saying we try and get as much as we can. As we’ll explore in future newsletters there are 50% or more margins that can be made! However we set our ballpark margin at around 18% to 20%. This can also depend on selling trends and quantity. For example, if you are selling hundreds or thousands of units per month, then perhaps 8% to 10% maybe perfectly fine depending on the selling price.

There are software tools, platforms and resources that will help us determine if a product is profitable and what margins can be. We’ll cover these in future issues. The Amazon Seller app can work, with their Revenue Calculator this can be a good place to start. We’ll cover this in greater detail as well.
