Side Hustle Selling #003 - Personal vs Professional Seller Accounts and More!

Personal vs. Professional Amazon Seller Account: Which is Right for You?

You’re already thinking about selling stuff on Amazon, Righ? I mean, you’re receiving this newsletter. Selling on Amazon is a great way to make some extra cash as a side hustle, or even start your own business. But before we dive in, we need to decide whether to go for a personal or professional Amazon seller account. Don't worry, we'll break down the differences for you, so you can choose the best option for your needs.

Personal Seller Account

Let's start with the personal seller account. This is like dipping your toes into the Amazon selling pool. It's perfect if you're just getting started or only plan to sell a few items casually. With a personal account, you can list products for sale on Amazon, but there's a catch – you can only sell up to 40 items per month. So, if you're selling old textbooks or your handmade crafts occasionally, a personal account might be all you need. Plus, it's free to sign up!

Professional Seller Account

Now, let's talk about the professional seller account. This is like diving headfirst into the Amazon selling pool. It's for serious sellers who are in it for the long haul. With a professional account, you can sell an unlimited number of products each month. This is great if you're planning to start a full-blown business or sell a wide range of products. Plus, you get access to cool tools and reports to help you manage your sales and inventory more efficiently. However, there's a monthly subscription fee of $39.99.

So, Which One Should You Choose?

It all depends on your selling goals and how much you plan to sell. If you're just selling a few things here and there, a personal account might be the way to go – it's free and easy to set up. But if you're serious about making money on Amazon and want access to more features, a professional account might be worth the investment.

A personal Amazon seller account is like a casual stroll down the Amazon selling path, while a professional account is like a full-on sprint. Consider your goals, budget, and selling volume before making your decision. And remember, you can always start with a personal account and upgrade later if you decide to take your Amazon selling game to the next level.

Thanks again and happy selling!

Tip or Trick of the Week

We’ll dive into strategies in future issues on what it means and how to “Win The Buy Box” But for this tip is to keep steady and stay strong with your pricing. If there are other competitors selling your product you’ll be tempted to lower your price to gain the sale over your competitors.

While this is tempting, this starts a vicious race to the bottom in price. You lower yours, then they lower theirs, each time losing precious profit. So, Keep your price competitive and same as other sellers, you’ll get your turn in winning the sale!

Q&A

Every week we answer a question or two from social media or our subscribers.

This week, we got the question:

“How do I test what things to sell before singing up?”

Good Question from subscriber, Steve.

We understand there is hesitation, and some anxiety in signing up for an Amazon Seller account. One thing you can do is simply use the Amazon Shopping App, NOT the Amazon Seller App yet.

As you are doing retail scouting, and looking for products, you can use the Amazon Shopping App to scan products in store. See if that exact product is selling, for how much, and if there are several other sellers. This is just a quick way to see basic information on a product. Keep in mind, you wouldn’t see sales trends, competitors inventories, etc. But this will get you started. Now get out there! You can do this!
